Greetings to all,
SLVUSD in partnership with the schools in Santa Cruz County have worked together since March 2020 to prepare for the reopening of schools. As conditions with COVID19 change and develop, districts have adjusted to meet guidelines established by the state. Increased cases of COVID have continued to disrupt the planning and implementation of school reopening.
Currently, school staff are being vaccinated or will be scheduled to be vaccinated in preparation for in-person classes. Returning to in-person classes will proceed in phases as school staff are adequately immunized. Specific dates for reopening each grade level will be determined based on completion of state guidelines, and the vaccination and immunization timeline for staff.
The SLVUSD district administration and SLV Teachers Association and SEIU continue to work together to prepare for schools and classrooms to reopen. Districts in Santa Cruz County are predicted to begin reopening in mid March and early April. Preschool, kindergarten, and special education groups will most likely be the first started, and will be followed by other elementary grade levels. Middle and high schools will follow as health conditions allow, but will continue to offer as many in-person services as possible. More detailed information and specific dates will be provided as soon as they are available.
Thank you for your patience and support for staff and students.

INFORMATION SENT JANUARY 7, 2021
Greetings to SLV Friends and Families,
After the events in Washington D.C. yesterday, educators are looking for ways to reach out to students and use this disappointing situation as a teachable moment. It is our greatest hope that we can help in the education of responsible and thoughtful citizens who work for peace, freedom, and opportunity for all Americans.
One of the primary roles of public education is to build educated citizens who can thoughtfully decide who to elect to public office. The ability to learn information and to be able to discriminate between fact and fiction is the skill of an intelligent individual. We may not agree on every issue and on all aspects of life or government, but certainly if we chose to work together in a tolerant, respectful manner, we can develop common ground.
Please join the teachers and educators in SLV in the discussion with neighbors, friends, and our children on ways to positively make changes or improvements that benefit all the members of our community. As always, thank you for your commitment to the staff and students in SLV.
