On Wednesday, February 15, 2017, SLV Rotary held the Richard D. King Annual Speech Contest at Casa Nostra in Ben Lomond.
SLV students had to submit a registration form and then create a 5-minute speech with the theme, “Rotary Serving Humanity”, and the speech was also required to include a reference to at least one principle of “The 4-Way Test” (below). The picture below shows our three SLV student winners and Mr. Calden, SLVHS Principal. (From left to right: Mr. Jeff Calden, SLVHS Principal, Connor Froling (3rd Place), Jasmine Brack (2nd Place), and Jenna Solomon (1st Place).
The First Place winner received $200, the Second Place winner received $100, and the Third Place winner received $50. All of these SLV students did an exemplary job with their speeches.
Jenna Solomon will move on to the County competition held March 16 at the Seascape Golf Club in Aptos.
The 4-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
